I'm so glad you are inquiring about my services and are looking into alternative birth options. Please allow me to tell you a little about my services and myself.
In 1986, after being disillusioned by the medical model of childbirth, I entered nursing school believing that I could make a difference and improve the experiences of women forgoing hospital birth as a labor and delivery nurse. Shortly thereafter, my second child was born and nursing school was put on hold. Today, I have six children (1 daughter and 5 sons); my last two children were born at home. During this time, I began my midwifery training.
I apprenticed with a local midwife in a small practice for 3 years. In 2000, I did an intense 3 month internship at Casa de Nacimiento in El Paso TX, a high volume, free standing birth center with a clientele of 40 to 60 births a month. Casa de Nacimiento has been my home away from home. I return there as a visiting staff midwife when my schedule allows learning, growing and teaching aspiring midwives...truly a labor of love. My work at Casa has provided me with a diverse range of knowledge, skills and experiences that many midwives do not see or manage after 5 to 10 years in a home birth practice
In 2001, I met all the requirements to sit for the NARM exam and earned my CPM credentials. I have studied in the field of nursing and will complete my Associates Degree in Nursing in the fall of 2008. I am licensed in both Texas and New Mexico. I provide complete prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care as well as well-women care in the privacy of my clients' home. Several of my clients find water very comforting during labor and delivery, so I offer the option of water birth and provide a wonderful large Eco inflatable birth tub for my client's birth enjoyment. I take the health and well being of you and your baby very seriously! I provide true informed consent in every aspect of the care I provide. Contact me today for a free consultation and to explore your options. And, most importantly, Congratulations! May your passage into motherhood be a safe and rewarding experience!
Sincerely,
Sandra Elkins, CPM, LM
